History

The Dr. Frederic H. Kass III, M.D. helped establish Hospice of Washington County, Inc. (HWC) in 1980. In 2005, to honor his dedication, HWC’s Board of Directors created the Frederic H. Kass III, M.D. Scholarship Fund, supporting the education of end-of-life care professionals.

In 2010, for HWC’s 30th anniversary, the fund was endowed and expanded to support all Washington County students pursuing healthcare careers.

In 2025, a new scholarship was introduced for students at the Meritus School of Osteopathic Medicine, which prepares future physicians to be accomplished, socially responsible, and community focused.

Qualifications

All applicants must be residents of Washington County, Maryland.

Applicants must be either:

  • A senior in high school accepted at an accredited college, majoring in the health care field, with a GPA of 3.0.

  • A current college student, majoring in a health care field, with a GPA of 3.0.

  • An employee of Hospice of Washington County, Inc. continuing their education in the healthcare field, accepted to an accredited college, maintaining an GPA of 3.0

All applications must be 100% complete to be considered.

Timeline

Application deadline is APRIL 1, 2027. Scholarship will be awarded in June of the same year to be awarded for the Fall semester.
